I stayed in the Ramming Lodge. Decent hotel, good food and very central

I stayed at the Buri Gallery.. That was ok.

Can't say I particularly like Chiang Mai, but loads of people do.

Yeah, I was there a week or two on and off when I was driving around Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai. I liked it a lot. Great atmosphere, especially with the monks chanting over the back wall and so on. Then again, it's the only place I stayed in in CM, so I can't compare it to anything else there.

Darby, did you stay there? I spoke to a couple who were staying there and they said it was vastly overpriced for what it is. I guess you don't agree?

Depends where you want to stay. I'd recommend avoiding the Suriwongse, despite its often cheap prices. There are numerous places right in Night Bazaar and most of them will be OK. A bit further away, perhaps 15 minutes walk from Night Bazaar, is the Park Hotel, which often has good prices and decent rooms. Breakfast's a bit naff, though.

This gaff was good - nice rooms, decent pool, nice little coffee shop next door for breakfast, good location. Decent base camp for a few days
